When Lorraine and Shannon reached out to me about doing a lifestyle photoshoot in Santa Monica, I was super intrigued. Sure, I had captured tons of lifestyle photoshoots, but none this unique. You see, Lorraine is a retired Ford model. She lives in a bungalow in Santa Monica, tucked between mansions with the cutest backyard. When Lorraine’s granddaughter, Shannon, was scheduled to visit from the East Coast, the pair knew that they needed to document their time together. Lorraine and Shannon wanted their day documented as naturally as possible, so they started with puzzles and the newspaper at the table over breakfast before moving onto the front porch during the afternoon. They even decided to have a little makeover with Shannon applying some fake lashes and lipstick on Lorraine. To round out our time together, Lorraine and Shannon sat in Lorraine’s sitting room discussing life, telling jokes, and most importantly, savoring every single moment with each other.

I’ll have to admit that sessions like these are extremely special to me for a couple of reasons. First, it’s an absolute honor to be invited into someone’s home and asked to document their lives. These moments are the ones that we will remember forever, and time spent together trumps time spent apart any day of the week. Next, family sessions are some of my favorite types of sessions to capture. It felt extra special, given the context of the session, and presented me with a new challenge that I truly feel like I nailed: how to create art from the ordinary. It’s not often that I’m asked to document such a special duo, which forced me to get creative and focus on details differently, like the color of Lorraine’s nail polish, or the page that she and Shannon turned to in a book. While seemingly uninteresting moments to some, the details in the photos of the time spent between Lorraine and Shannon will serve as the most perfect memories for all the years to come.

Needless to say, Lorraine and Shannon found beauty in their daily routine and invited me into their space to capture it for them. Keep scrolling to see more of their time together and perhaps, one of the most special sessions that I’ve ever had the honor of capturing.

Needless to say, this session was incredible to capture. From start to finish, Lorraine and Shannon were a joy to be around. The love they have for each other is evident through Shannon making Lorraine Chai tea and getting her all dolled up just for fun. This session will forever remain etched in my heart, and my biggest hope is that it remains etched in their hearts, too.
