If you live in the greater Atlanta area, you know this winter was a wild one! With daily temperatures in the teens, it’s not surprising most people were keeping warm in their homes and opting for indoor photoshoots. However, there were a few random days of beautiful weather and this session happened to fall on one of them. With the trees mostly bare but still some pretty leaves to be found and a warmer winter day, this little family had a blast playing and checking out the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area near Roswell, Georgia.

As a family photographer, my first priority is always making sure that the kiddos warm up to me so that I can capture their little personalities in all their glory. Of course, that is easier said than done with many toddlers so I wasn’t surprised when little Sky had just woken up from a nap and needed a few minutes to get used to me and my big cameras. That said, after just a few minutes, Sky and his sister River were climbing up fallen trees (with the help of their mom, of course) and throwing leaves like confetti. The kiddos had so much fun with the leaves, it was hard to get them to our next spot, a gorgeous little pond surrounded by the forest.

When we arrived, the kids took turns throwing rocks into the pond and twirling with their mom while I documented all the smiles and laughter. I also got some great photos of the whole family cuddled up and soaking in that beautiful winter day together. Before we wrapped up, the kiddos spent some time exploring the ground and seeing what was in the dirt (we love a nature child, am I right?!) before having a little mad dash with their mom chasing behind them, filling the forest with laughter.
