North Georgia Winter Engagement Session
Fort Mountain State Park | North Georgia Photographer
Adventure Engagement Session // Appalachian Mountain Photoshoot
While most photographers use the winter season to regroup and strategize for the new year, hiding from the cold weather and everything that comes with it, I am 100 percent the opposite. Give me a solid jacket, a cool location, some amazing people, and we can make anything incredible. This wintery North Georgia engagement session was no exception, especially because it was at one of my favorite spots in all of Georgia—-Fort Mountain State Park.
Way before I became a photographer, I was just a teenager who was dragged from Florida up to Georgia for the summer by her family. It’s not like I was that upset about it, but I also wasn’t thrilled; what did a city girl from Miami know about spending the summer in North Georgia? However, by the time we went back home at the end of the summer, not only had I created some truly lasting memories, I had fallen in love with this place. We explored every river, every apple orchard, and every dirt road we could in those two months but one of the places that left its mark was Fort Mountain. This state park has incredible views, a beautiful lake, camping, hiking, and even mini golf. Any time I would later come up to the area as an adult, I would bring my friends, family, and eventually even my husband here. It’s a magical, quiet little state park (especially in the winter), which is why I knew I needed to shoot here once I found out we were moving to the area!
Amber and Rob wanted to do engagement photos before their elopement in Joshua Tree later this spring and when they said they were up for anything, I knew exactly where to take them. When we arrived at the park, we essentially had the whole place to ourselves and what was even cooler? The lake was frozen! We had just had a crazy cold snap the last few days and even a little bit of snow further south so it totally made sense that the weather would be so much more dramatic up in the mountains. That said, these two braved the incredibly cold weather by snuggling up, dancing, and exploring together while I captured some really fun, beautiful photos for them to remember this time in their lives.

As the day started to come to an end, I knew I had to bring them to one more spot before we wrapped up. This little overlook is by far one of my favorite spots and again, we had it all to ourselves. We soaked in the mountains surrounding us and while there wasn’t a gorgeous sunset to accompany, Amber and Rob’s fun personalities, perfect outfits, and go-with-the-flow attitude’s made this moody afternoon sparkle!
