Sunset Couples Session in Malibu

Lukas and Lukas reached out to me after planning their vacation from Germany and wanting to do a couples photoshoot in Malibu. As friends of one of my previous clients, they were excited to document their adventure to California and get some updated photos together in one of the most beautiful places in SoCal. After going over some options, we decided on Leo Carrillo State Beach. Keeping an eye on the weather, we decided to plan for a little bit earlier of a session to accommodate for cloud coverage.
When I arrived at Leo Carrillo State Beach, it was still cloudy but the sun was desperately trying to peek through. I walked around and found the coolest cave and a few other unique spots for once we started their session. After walking back to my car and prepping my gear, I found Lukas and Lukas waiting exactly where I had indicated in our planning. They were dressed so perfectly for the beach, in colors that I knew would pop well with all the clouds. We chatted as we walked together towards the water and they told me all the cool things they had done on their SoCal vacation thus far.
After showing them the cave and taking some photos there,, we went back towards the sand and played around the water, climbed on the rocks, and did A LOT of laughing! Once we were ready to leave the water, I directed us back up to the cliffside overlooking the ocean where we found a pretty mini-meadow to take some photos in (we did your absolute best to stay on the small trail that was designated). I also couldn’t resist having them climb up to the lifeguard tower to grab a couple shots there as well. Even though the wind was raging and loud, we took a few last minutes to enjoy the ocean before starting our trek back to the cars. I thought we were done with their session but then something happened…
THE SUN CAME OUT!
I was not expecting to see the sun, especially this gloriously, and absolutely could not resist getting some more shots. We hit a few more spots before ending up at one final lifeguard tower where we all took in the setting sun in all her glory. It was like the weather gods knew that Lukas and Lukas were here on vacation and wanted to give them a little treat! As the sun glowed around them, they cuddled up and soaked it all in before it was time to head back. It was the absolute most perfect way to end their session and I am so grateful to have been able to document a small part of their California adventure.
