Halloween wedding in San Diego Summit and Sur Photography

As a California elopement photographer, I often get the opportunity to shoot some insanely cool and adventurous elopements. But when Brittany and Justin reached out about having me photograph their Halloween intimate wedding in Downtown San Diego, I couldn’t say “yes” fast enough to this super unique wedding! Justin and Brittany imagined their big day to feel cozy and fun, with views of the San Diego skyline and of course, with an elegant Halloween theme.

On their Halloween wedding day, Justin and Brittany got ready separately, surrounded by their friends and family in preparation for their parking deck first look. Justin donned a dapper suit while Brittany got dressed up in a gorgeous blush colored gown. They both had some help in getting ready, with Brittany’s sister helping her into her dress and Justin’s friend helping with his handkerchief and cufflinks. While they were finishing up, I snapped a few photos of their details, including some of their gorgeous florals, their shoes, and even a little figurine of their cat! Once they were both ready, Justin headed to the parking deck while Brittany had a small first look with her parents in the lobby of their hotel. Everyone was emotional and Brittany just looked absolutely stunning! Once we were done, we headed out to meet Justin for their parking deck first look…

When we arrived at the parking deck near Padres Stadium, Justin was waiting, eager to see Brittany in her wedding dress for the first time. As they held hands, with their backs turned towards each other, they finally swiveled around to take in each other’s looks. They were both so excited and truly glowing while taking in each other looks. They twirled, looked over the city’s skyline, and showed off their wedding looks, all while I snapped photo after photo. They even recreated a few of their “signature” poses from their engagement session (the ones with Brittany doing cat ears and with Justin making heart hands alá Taylor Swift). After lots of fun and lots of kisses, the two of them hopped in their car and headed back to the hotel for the main event: their ceremony!

When we arrived back at the hotel, everyone was getting seated for the ceremony and Brittany’s sister was ready to officiate! Once everyone was ready, Justin made his way down the aisle, followed by Brittany who was accompanied by her father. Everything was subtly decorated to theme, with the aisle lined with pumpkins and pages from their favorite books as well some fun bats hanging from their arbor. The sun also decided to make a reappearance during their ceremony, which made everything glowy and warm. The two of them read each other personal vows before saying “I do” and then being declared husband and wife!

Immediately after their ceremony, we did lots of family portraits (if you have ever worked with me, you know that for intimate weddings, one of your big “homework assignments” is to get me a list of all the family and friends photo combinations that you want and these two had A LOT) before Brittany and Justin ran upstairs to change into their costumes for the evening. Justin added some super cool chain mail-esque decor to his suit, giving House of the Dragon vibes while Brittany changed into a completely different dress and added some wings, turning into an ethereal fairy. The two of them looked ready to party with their already-dressed-up guests and after a few snaps by the elevator, made their way back down to the rooftop.

Once they arrived downstairs, they immediately made their way into their first dance. Brittany and Justin twirled and swayed to Taylor Swift’s “You Are in Love” (and I immediately started crying upon recognizing the song and watching them dance to the tune of one of my favorite songs) before moving on to dances with their mother and father. After that, with their marriage license signed, they feasted on dinner with their guests while everyone made toasts in their honor.

As the sun dwindled and turned the sky a deep shade of orange and purple, we wrapped up with a few more portraits overlooking the skyline (and with their very bone-y guest!) before cutting the cake and digging into the delicious custom cookies they had made. It was the perfect way to end their fun, Halloween elopement!
