Even though I typically don’t photograph large receptions as an elopement photographer in Southern California, it is always really cool when a couple decides to have the best of both worlds. So when Yi and Greg reached out to me about their intimate wedding followed by a unique reception at the Highland Park Bowl, I knew it would be an incredible wedding day. And once I met them via Zoom? I was sold! These two were not only super cool but some of the sweetest people I have ever met.

These two cuties met right when the world was shutting down in 2020 and found themselves in love after lots of Zoom dates and a very eventful (i.e. lost lol) hike in Southern California. I am always amazed by my couples who met during the pandemic because it was such a stressful, scary time and yet, there was so much love to be found amidst all those emotions. Both self-described introverts, their idea of a wedding was one where they didn’t have to stand up and say vows in front of a hundred people but could still have the fun parts that come with a wedding that size. With that, their incredible wedding day plan was born and I couldn’t have been more stoked to be part of the magic.

They started their wedding day with a first look that was set up at Redbird’s beautiful outdoor terrace. surrounded by lush greenery. Greg was so excited to see Yi in her gorgeous gown and one of the coolest veils I have photographed! After putting boutonnières and corsages on Greg and her parents, we got a couple portraits of just Yi before heading upstairs to their ceremony spot at the venue. The room was perfectly set up for their post-ceremony lunch and the patio for their vows. As their nearest and dearest arrived, everyone chatted and mingled before starting the ceremony, officiated by a close friend of the couple. Once they said “I do”, they grabbed some family portraits on the patio before retiring to the room for the incredible meal that had been prepared for everyone (I can attest that the food was absolutely incredible). The couple wined and dined before heading out with everyone to their reception at the bowling alley!

After I arrived at Highland Park Bowl for their reception, I took some time to grab some photos of the venue and all the gorgeous details throughout. From the florals to the food, not only was the venue location an inspired choice, the set up was truly incredible!

Once Yi and Greg arrived, we made sure to spend a few minutes taking some photos outside the building, as this was their big moment to include their fur baby Theo. He was dressed to the nines in a little tuxedo and I just about melted—-he looked so cute with his newly married parents! When guests started to trickle in, Yi and Greg decided it was time to head inside and mingle with their guests. They ate, drank, and bowled the night away and even had some fun in the Photo Booth they rented for the evening. Towards the end of the evening, it was time to cut their adorable vintage-inspired cake but not before they grabbed the microphone and thanked everyone for joining them.

Yi and Greg’s wedding was truly an incredible day and hopefully inspires other couples to have the wedding day they envision. Between their super intimate ceremony and incredible fun-filled bowling alley reception, their wedding was the perfect mix of SoCal elopement vibes mixed with the best parts of a traditional wedding!
