Happy pride month!

While we celebrate pride all year-round over here, I love this month because it is a great reminder of how the movement for equal rights started, how far we’ve come, and honoring every single person who has dedicated their life to fighting for those rights. The rainbows everywhere don’t hurt either! :)

When visiting family in Miami last year, I wanted to get a few shoots in so I asked my friend Silvy and her wife Isa if they would be interested, as they had just had their second baby a few months prior. With things starting to open back up after the COVID-19 vaccine became available, they were excited to get out a little bit and get some updated family photos together. From there, we nailed down a date and I prayed for no rain, which is a total pipe dream if you know Miami afternoons in the summer. Next was picking a location.

As I started my photography career after leaving Miami (where I was born and raised), I didn’t really have any content from Miami so choosing the right location was really important to me. We ended up choosing Matheson Hammock because the trees are absolutely gorgeous and it was close to where I was staying and where Silvy and Isa live as well. Since it was a family session and we were working around the kiddo’s sleep schedules, we decided to shoot earlier in the afternoon which meant the trees would help diffuse some of that harsh light as well.

When the day arrived for their session, we lucked out and had great, albeit hot, weather. It was a gorgeous day for a session and they all showed up in the cutest outfits ever. Having known Silvy and Isa for over a decade, (we all went to college together and were in the same sorority and were roommates in Spain for our study abroad program) it was such a treat to catch up with them again after a while and to see them in this new role as parents to Mia and Diego. Mia was full of sass for their sessionβ€”-per usual for all toddlers, am I right? And Diego was a perfect little sleeper the entire time. They laughed, cuddled, played, and it was so nice to be able to document this stage of life for my friends.

I am hoping to be back in Miami sometime this fall so if you are looking for a family session, reach out and we can schedule something!
